Another Monday, another music Monday post here at Law & Food. After debating long and hard on which artist to post about, I drew inspiration from Chief's encounter with the hipster kind at No. 7 Sub Shop and decided on indie rock duo She and Him. Comprised primarily of guitarist and musician extraordinaire M. Ward and vocals from the beautiful Zooey Deschanel, their first album Volume One, released by Merge Records, quickly became a favorite of mine during the summer of 2007.
It has been quite the year for Mrs. Deschanel. After a well received freshman release, Zooey (already an accomplished model and actress) co-starred with actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the movie, (500) Days of Summer, was featured on Top Chef Masters and married fiance Ben Gibbard, lead singer of the indie group Death Cab for Cutie. "In The Sun," is the first single off She and Him's sophomore release, cleverly titled Volume Two, set to be released tomorrow (March 23, 2010). While I could have chosen Zooey's cover of the Smith's, "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want," that was featured on the (500) Days of Summer soundtrack, I chose an original song rather than spoil Morrissey's rendition, that is better in my opinion.
I apologize for embedded youtube clips, until I master embedding a mp3 player to stream songs this will be our modus operandi. Until then, enjoy the video and the remainder of your Monday.
