Music Monday: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

Spring signals many things such as a time of "re-birth," but its also a time in the music industry when bands put out new releases in promotion of summer tours. While debating what artist or artists to feature this Monday, I ultimately chose my favorite band of 2009: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (POBPAH). This indie-quartet from Brooklyn took the music scene by storm with their self-titled release on Slumberland Records, getting plenty of buzz after Pitchfork Media named it their 19th favorite album of 2009.

The combination of fuzzy guitars, keyboards and soft vocals of lead singer, Kip Berman immediately hooked me and is prevalent such songs as their first single, "Young Adult Fiction."

In the latest POBPAH news, the band is set to release a new 7" with two tracks, including A-side "Say No to Love" on June 8th. You can pre-order it if you like it or better yet, go out and see the band live for FREE on July 17 at the Siren Music Festival.
