Albeit a few weeks old, I couldn't resist posting this killer track brought to you by the good people at Converse, and by Converse, I mean Nike. What originally began as an athletic shoe, Chuck Taylor's otherwise known as, "Chucks," became intricately associated with the punk movement during the late 1970's and throughout the 1980's. However, in 2003, the corporate giant known as Nike purchased Converse and in an ironic twist of fate, single-handedly represented everything it once stood against, like all of those CBGB t-shirts sold in malls across America.
But enough history lessons about subcultures and shoes, "All Summer," is Converse's second aggressive campaign towards America's youth through music. This song features a collaboration between Cleveland-native rapper, Kid CuDi, Bethany Cosentino of the breakout band, Best Coast, and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij. CuDi's unique style of rapping eventually gives way to Cosentino's inspired yearning for summer amid Batmanglij's frantic drumbeat, making for a perfect summer soundtrack. Hope you all have a happy Music Monday!
