It came together very quickly, but I'm excited to say that I will be taking a serious roadtrip with my younger brother between March 3-15th. We will be starting in Cincinnati, driving south down I-75 through Kentucky, Tennessee and into Atlanta for a night or two. I'm very familiar with this drive, but I'm debating taking a detour south of Knoxville to Benton's Bacon. There are also many, many delicious eats in Atlanta that I'll be revisiting.
From Atlanta, my brosef and I will be heading further south into Florida, then cutting over to the east coast to spend a few days with friends near Vero Beach. After Vero Beach, we'll be driving up I-95, till we hit Savannah. There is a fantastic looking BBQ place called G-Daddy's just north of the GA/FL border that I'm already salivating over.
We'll ultimately be spending a few days with the rest of my family in the Jewish/Midwestern "paradise" known as Hilton Head. Yes I know, but my youngest brother is following in the college tennis tradition of his two older brother's by being forced to spend spring break in Hilton Head. Woopee. HH is a culinary wasteland importing mediocrity to what should be a great place to eat, but there are a couple of diamonds in this big pile of shit by the sea (and I'd love to here any other recommendations). No Aunt Chilada's recs please.
From HH, we'll be driving through South and North Carolina (and checking out more bbq where we can find it), and ultimately back to Ohio. From there, it's just a quick flight back to NYC.
The tentative route. A total of almost 2100 miles.
I'm really looking forward to the trip, and I plan on writing about it along the way. Yes, I will bring a camera (but I will keep it out of the restaurants I visit). If anyone has any suggestions for places to eat along the route (or a slight detour) I'd love to hear them.
Sounds like loads of fun! Eat lotsa barbeque, I will be jealous. -=)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post. Check back when I'm on the trip, I will have lots of updates and pics of bbq.
ReplyDeleteI love the eggs benedict at Stacks in Hilton Head and it's cheap! Also the shrimp and grits at Signe's is g-r-e-a-t.
